| JMC launches drive for desilting, clearing Nallahs | | |

Jammu: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) entrusted with desilting and clearing of Jammu city Nallahs through out the year is carrying out a special drive before the onset of monsoon. Nallahs at Channi Himmat, Greater Kailash, Sainik Colony, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Rasham Ghar Colony, New Plot, Patoli, Gangyal, Model Town, Babliana, Talab Tillo, Om Nagar Bohri, and Krishna Nagar have been cleared and the rest of the Nallah clearance operation is still in progress. JMC is facing a daunting task in carrying out the job, as the deep drains and Nallahs are filled with all kinds of materials, especially construction mulba and polythene bags in addition to the normal city waste. There is every apprehension otherwise that these Nallahs or deep drains may face blockage and overflowing if the timely action is not take.
A joint inspection was conducted by the Joint Commissioner (A) and Joint Commissioner (W) JMC on 08-05-2009 and appreciated the field and supervisory staffs for the operation of desilting and transportation of the recovered material form the Shakti Nagar Nallah. Desilting of Jammu city drainage Nallahs is being carried out by transport wing of JMC under the close supervision and instructions of the Commissioner, JMC.
The Municipal Commissioner has appealed to the general public not to dump any left over building materials in the deep drains/ Nallahas and also properly dispose off garbage through JMC garbage collection bins placed at various spots in the city. Cooperation and care from all of the citizens of Jammu may go a long way in helping in stopping the choking of Nallahs and drains to create better sanitation in city localities. Commissioner, JMC has further requested the general public to bear with JMC for any inconvenience that is caused during the desiling of Jammu city Nallahs.
