| Kotwal visits ‘accident lan’, promises new vehicles for Kishtwar | | | Early Times report Kishtwar, May 08- Calling upon the district administration and the line departments to revamp the existing traffic and transport system in Kishtwar district, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal has instructed them to ensure strict implementation of traffic laws warranting stringent measures against the erring drivers. During his tour to the district for overseeing the administrative response to curb the frequency of accidents in the district, Dr. Kotwal said administration is responsible for the safety of the public, adding that a number of new vehicles shall be made available for the routes of Doda and Kishtwar within next one and half months. The Divisional Commissioner stressed on setting up workshops along the vulnerable points on hilly roads. This, he said would ease the maintenance constraints faced by transport operators enroute as well as check the occurrence of accidents. He also called for conducting regular check on the driving by passenger vehicle drivers. Kotwal directed the district authorities to constitute a district-level Transport and Traffic Monitoring Committee headed by the DDC with SP, ARTO and Ex. Engineers as its members to run the traffic in an organized manner, keep vigil on all the routes in the district and ensure safe transportation to the public. While addressing a meeting of the district officers to discuss the traffic and transport management in the district and work out a long-term solution to reduce accidents, Dr. Kotwal gave directions for taking the necessary corrective measures in this regard. He also took stock of ration supplies at FCI stores, supply of kerosene to consumers, disaster management infrastructure made so far, execution of mega projects, additional ambulances and life saving drugs at the district hospital for tackling any emergency in the future. Dr Kotwal also inspected the accident site on Kishtwar-Palmar road near Bandarkoot and directed the GREF authorities to ensure immediate erection of crash barriers and sign boards on edges of the roads under their jurisdiction for smooth and safe driving of the vehicles. He along with DDC met the families of the accident victims and offered condolence to the bereaved family members and assured all possible financial help and SRO-43 benefits to the dependents of the deceased families.
