| 40 budding players get sports scholarship | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, May 8- Forty outstanding students of Udhampur district, who participated at national-level sports events, were encouraged with sports scholarships by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports Department J&K at simple but impressive function organized by District Youth Services and Sports Department at Sports Stadium, here today. The District Development Commissioner, Ajay Khajuria was the chief guest on the occasion. Chief Education Officer, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, members of district Sports Advisory Committee, heads of various educational institutions and Sports teachers attended the function. The students who participated at National level sports events in Kabaddi, Volley ball, Hand ball, Athletics, Kho-Kho, Cricket and Yoga were awarded scholarship worth Rs. 1750 each by the DDC. Complimenting officers, technical staff of Youth Services and Sports Department, in general and students, in particular, Khajuria said that their commendable performance at National level sports event would remain a guiding force for other students to excel in the field of sports. He said it was the outcome of the sincere efforts of their sports teachers’ that the budding players of different educational institutions of the district were getting appreciation in shape of scholarship. “Games inculcate a since of self confidence and mutual understanding among the budding players which further helps in strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and overall personality development,” the DDC said and called upon the budding sportspersons of the district to take advantage of available sports facilities to improve their sports talent. He said efforts are being made to improve the sports infrastructure in the district to boost sports culture.
