| Measures to combat biological disasters discussed | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 8- To discuss the preparedness and response plan for dealing with the biological and chemical disasters, a meeting was held at Government Medical College, Jammu in which Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu, T. Angchuk, Principal, Government Medical College, Dr. Rajinder Singh, administrators and Heads of various departments participated. The participants were sensitized about the biological threat posed to humans in the present human society and the measures that needs to be taken to tackle this menace. There was a uniform consensus on the seriousness of biological threats and how if not controlled they can spiral into a major cause of death and destruction. Stress was laid on making the hospitals well equipped with identification and decontamination equipments, adoption of quarantine measures and isolation of victims during the time of such crises. Taking note of the un-preparedness among the doctors and paramedics regarding biological threats, emphasis was laid on organization of special awareness programs training camps to make them well versed in dealing with biological disasters. The meeting assumes greater significance in the wake of outbreak of Swine Flu in the West and preparation of response plan by our health institutions to combat such threats.
