Sadhotra seeks out-of-box solutions for rain-flood hit areas | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 12: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister, Mr. Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, today expressed grave concern over the widespread damages caused during the recent torrential rains and flash flooding. He expressed anguish and deep concern over the alarming situation arising out of land sinking in DARGALI and BARBALONE Mohallas of Ward No. 6 and 4 of Kanger Panchayat in Block Bhalwal in Jammu North Assembly Constituency, which has severely endangered the lives and properties of several families. After his visit to the area, Mr Sadhotra sought immediate compensation as a special dispensation for the affected households whose dwellings are now under imminent threat of collapse due to the fast sinking of land and due recent spell of torrential rains and flash flooding. Mr. Sadhotra described the situation as extraordinary, warranting out-of-the-box solutions from the administration. He said this is not a routine case of damage or seasonal flooding; the sinking of land has created conditions that have rendered several dwelling units uninhabitable. The looming threat of collapse is causing extreme mental and physical distress to families, many of whom have nowhere to go. The former Minister said that a number of houses have developed deep cracks and serious structural imbalances as a direct consequence of the sinking soil. Such structural compromises, he cautioned, pose not only the risk of sudden collapse but also long-term hazards for residents if not immediately addressed. He called for urgent steps to secure the affected families, prevent further damage, and rehabilitate those affected. Mr. Sadhotra emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to deal with the crisis, saying that a detailed survey by Geology and Mining experts be conducted without delay, along with a thorough audit of all houses in the danger zone to assess their safety and stability. Sadhotra talked to the ACD Jammu for opening of links of Kangar Panchayat in absence of which the people of this area have been disconnected. Reiterating the National Conference's commitment to the welfare of the people, Mr. Sadhotra said that the Omar Abdullah-led government has always remained sensitive to public sufferings. He assured the residents of Kanger Panchayat that the administration, under the leadership of Jenab Omar Abdullah, is already seized of the matter and all necessary measures are being taken to steer the affected families out of this difficult phase. He said the government is agile and responsive, and steps are underway to provide immediate relief as well as long-term safety to the victims. Mr. Sadhotra also conveyed the solidarity of the National Conference with the sufferers, saying that the party stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the affected families. During the visit, Mr Sadhotra interacted with the people who apprised him of various other problems. He assured that these will be taken up with the concerned for immediate redressal. Mr Sadhotra was accompanied by Raghubir Singh Manhas District President, Haji Bagh Ali Zonal Secretary, Randhir Singh District Secretary, Rakesh Sharma President YNC Jammu, Ved Parkash Sharma Organizer Jammu North, Ch Mohd Razak, Ganga Ram Bhagat, Krishan Lal Chalgotra, Balram Singh, Ashu Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Ch Hamid, Mohd Sadiq. |
