Jammu, Sept 14: The Department of Environmental Sciences, Central University of Jammu organized Aurora-2025 its Orientation Programme under the esteemed patronage of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, at the Brig. Rajinder Singh (MVC) Auditorium. The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony accompanied by a soulful rendition of Saraswati Vandana by the students of the department. A formal welcome address was delivered by Dr. Shweta Yadav, Associate Dean, International Affairs, Warden, SB Girls Hostel and a faculty of the department thanking Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain and other dignitaries for sparing their valuable time and gracing the occasion.
Head of the Department Prof. Richa Kothari felicitated Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain and other dignitaries Prof. Sunil Dhar, Dean School of Life Sciences and Prof. Deepak Pathania, Senior Faculty, Department of Environmental Sciences.
In his presidential remarks Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, appreciated the efforts of the faculty and motivated students of the department to pursue excellence in their academics through devotion, dedication, sincerity and smart hard work with innovative approach.
Earlier in the programme, Dr. Ankit Tandon, Associate Professor of the department gave an insightful orientation address covering vision, faculty diversity, facilities available and programs offered by the department. Thereafter, Prof. Richa Kothari highlighted the significant achievements of the department in diverse areas such as research, publications, fellowships, collaborations, curriculum innovations including value-added, skill enhancement and ability enhancement courses, as well as departmental initiatives like Ecogiri, workshops, and conferences.
Sharing his words of wisdom, Prof. Deepak Pathania encouraged the students to balance academic pursuits with co-curricular engagements, while also reflecting on responsibilities and personal growth. This was followed by an impressive and comprehensive student-led presentation by Ms. Tanya Chander (M.Sc. Semester III), showcasing the department’s activities. Prof. Sunil Dhar in his blissful remarks, emphasized the importance of perseverance and dedication.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the departmental magazine Envirosphere (Paryavarnia Sameeksha), released by Hon’ble VC along with the faculty members and the editorial team, marking yet another milestone in the department’s academic journey.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Dinesh Kumar, faculty of the department.
The event was witnessed by students, research scholars and non-teaching staff of the department with vibrant participation, making the Orientation Programme 2025 a memorable beginning for the academic session.
