| Sikh Anger Against Taliban Halts Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 8: Normal life was paralyzed due to the Jammu bandh called by conglomerate of over 20 organizations including Sikh Representative organizations, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), BJP, BAJ and others as Jammu witnessed a ‘complete bandh’ against the atrocities on Sikhs/Hindus in Northwest region of Pakistan by the Taliban. Jammu stood against jointly against the ‘Taliban atrocities’ against minorities in Pakistan particularly Sikh and Hindus in NWFP of Pakistan. Pertinent to mention that as many as 150 Sikh families have reportedly moved from Buner, Swat and Aurakzai Agency to Rawalpindi, Lahore and other parts of Pakistan. About 20 organizations including VHP, Bajrang Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), State Akali Dal (SAD), Bar Association Jammu, Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Retailers Association, Petrol Pump Association and others have given a call of Jammu Bandh on May 8 which was supported by many other political and non political parties. Barring few stray violent incidents inn some pockets the Bandh remained peaceful in the rest of Jammu city. All the shops and business establishments remained shut and public transport vehicles were thin on the city roads. Protests were noticed in various pockets of the city e.g. at Vikram Chowk, Satwari, Digiana, where the protesters torched the tyres and blocked the road resulted vehicular movement affected. A large number of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were on the job to prevent untoward incident during the protest demonstrations. Adequate deployment of security forces has been made in the city to keep situation under control, a senior police officer said. At Satwari, the protest took ugly turn when the protestors damaged some vehicles and forced shopkeepers to shut their shops. The police had to resorted to the use of force to control the mob from getting violent in which Vikram Randava, BJP Gandhi Nagar Mandal President along with other 4-5 protesters were injured. Meanwhile, several members of Bar Association of Jammu which also has supported the Jammu Bandh took out a procession from High Court, Janipur to Vikram Chowk in the city, where they were joined by activists of other organizations supported Bandh to proceed to UN office to lodge protest against the harassment of Sikhs by the Taliban in the neighboring country. They also submitted memorandum to UN observers and appealed them to exact pressure on Pakistan to safe the minorities. BJP State Spokesperson Ramesh Arora (Adv.) has extended thanks to the public of Jammu for extending full support to the call given by BJP and other organizations. He said it is a dire need of the time when a war should be lodged against Taliban and other terrorist by the government and the war should be fought within and outside the country. Arora has appealed all the political, social and religious organizations to remain united against the terrorism.
