| PDP has emerged as J&K’s real political voice: Baig | | Reinforce the resolve to settle Kashmir peacefully; Mufti to India, Pak | | Early Times Report Kupwara, May 09 –‘The political leadership of India and Pakistan must reinforce the resolve to work through peaceful and inclusive means towards resolution of the Kashmir issue taking into account the just concerns and genuine aspirations of its people’, said PDP Patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. Addressing an impressive public meeting here today, the PDP Patron said the people of Jammu and Kashmir, irrespective of their age, gender, status or political affiliation, have been suffering the disastrous consequences of the turmoil for around two decades and they now want to breathe in an atmosphere of dignified peace away from the scourge of violence and intimidation of all sorts. “While heading the coalition Government between 2002 and 2005, PDP worked tirelessly towards healing physical, psychological and emotional wounds inflicted by the violence and fortunately, its efforts met with considerable success,” he said and added that while ensuring a relaxed security environment, the PDP-led Government had strived towards giving good governance, ensuring political stability and fulfilling expectations of the people in all the regions and sub-regions of the State. Sayeed said although most of the political pundits, at that time, had viewed and dismissed the PDP’s enterprise of hope with skepticism and ridicule, but the party discerned the imperatives of the history and stood like a rock against the winds and waves of various hostile forces. He said responding to the people’s innermost yearning for peace with dignity, PDP crusaded the policy of repairing their hurt psyche, salvaging their bruised dignity, kindling a new hope in their hearts and motivating them to mould their destiny through a participatory political process. “The result was there for all to behold,” he said and added that fortunately, the leadership of the two countries at that time had also understood and appreciated this rejuvenating and hopeful political transformation in the State and responded to it in good measure. Reiterating that PDP would always be on the forefront to respond to all the aspirations of the State’s people, Sayeed said the growing public support has been the driving force for the PDP’s pro-people endeavors and without the people’s backing the party could not have achieved much. “The political and democratic forces in the State shall have to assert themselves as a matter of right and not a concession”, he said Addressing the meeting senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig said the PDP has opened itself to new responsibilities as people’s expectations with the party have grown manifold. He said PDP is credited with bringing about changes of great importance and substance to the State’s political landscape. Baig said while the turmoil has adversely affected almost all the spheres of society, it, tragically, consumed nearly an entire generation of our young population. “We have to not only safeguard the precious lives of the youth but create increasing opportunities for them to make them economically productive and socially useful,” he said and added that despite passing through the darkest era of our history, the main source of the State’s confidence is the substantial potential of building upon its young human resource. “Even in the most difficult times, our young boys and girls are doing us proud in whatever field they take a plunge,” he said adding that the problem of unemployment especially among the educated youth is a matter of grave concern and needs immediate attention. “Not only the Government but the entire nation, including individuals, institutions and organizations, have to be brought together in a spirit of creative enterprise to widen the economic and employment space for the State’s youth,” he said. PDP leaders Abdul Rehman Veeri, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Abdul Haq Khan, Ghulam Qadir Mir and Fayaz Ahmad also addressed the meeting.
