TWS, Public Works Department collaborate to bring relief to flood affected communities | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 14: In a significant display of community solidarity and government support, Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Chief Engineer Public Works Department (R&B) Jammu, visited the Nikki Tawi Bridge site, which suffered extensive damage to its approach towards Village Suray Chak due to recent floods. This visit was a direct outcome of the persistent efforts of Tawi Welfare Society, whose members have been tirelessly advocating for urgent repairs. During his visit, the Chief Engineer was visibly moved by the extent of the damage and assured the Society members of prompt repairs, bringing a sense of relief to the community. The timely intervention of the Public Works Department is expected to prevent catastrophic consequences for the people of Tawi Island, who would have been severely impacted had the bridge collapsed. In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity, Tawi Welfare Society organized a Relief Distribution Camp at Apnavan Suray Chak, where 100 kits of essential kitchen items were distributed to flood-affected and needy families. Sh. Rajesh Gupta, as the Chief Guest, lauded the selfless efforts of TWS volunteers and addressed the gathering, inspiring hope and resilience in the face of adversity. The ceremony was further elevated by the symbolic planting of a sapling at Apnavan, representing the community's commitment to renewal and growth. The Society members expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest for his visit, his assurance to repair the bridge, and his commitment to addressing their concerns, including the long-pending issue of the main road at Belicharana. A written request in this regard was also submitted to the Chief Engineer. The collaboration between Tawi Welfare Society and the Public Works Department is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the impact of collaborative efforts in building a stronger, more resilient society. The Society looks forward to continued support and partnership in addressing the needs of the community. |
