| Ved Prakash new UGC chief | | | Early Times Report
New Delhi, May 09: Eminent academician Prof Ved Prakash has been appointed as Vice Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC).
The appointment has been made by the HRD Ministry after "necessary clearance" from the Election Commission, as required under the Model Code of Conduct, the ministry said in a statement.
The post of UGC Vice Chairman has been lying vacant since February 28 when Prof MC Sharma was appointed vice chancellor of a newly created Central University. Prakash has been looking after responsibilities of the position.
Prakash's name for the post was finalised by a Search-cum-Selection committee of the HRD Ministry.
The ministry dismissed as "baseless" reports in a section of press that the appointment was made in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
