| Denied leave, SPO shoots self | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 9- A Special Police Officer (SPO) was injured when he shot himself with his service weapon after being denied leave by his seniors in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. ‘Abusing his senior officers, the SPO identified as Vikram Singh ( No. 544) of Marta yesterday jumped into Rani Talab (pond) and later shot himself but survived with minor injury in his leg,’ sources said. The frustrated SPO allegedly attempted to end his life after being denied leave, for which he had applied for over last over two months. Civilians and police personnel tried to pacify him and requested the SPO to hand over the loaded AK-47 rifle but in vain. The police party however, tactfully reached closer to the SPO and snatched the gun but bullet was fired hitting his leg, sources said. The SPO had applied for a leave to appear in the matriculation examination. Injured SPO has been admitted in the hospital and kept in preventive custody, sources added.
