| ICELA conducts workshop on ‘Forest Fires-its impact on human population’ | | | Early Times Report Jammu: Indian Council for Enviro Legal Action (ICELA) on Sunday organised a day long workshop on “Forest Fires-its impact on human population” under the chairmanship of State Convenor Ashok Sharma. Experts presented their valuable views regarding the issue and need was felt to curb the menace by involving youth and common people living near the forests. Concerns to eradicate various types of loopholes like pollution of water, air and soil were expressed as due to deplorable conditions of villages and towns it was suggested that youth and masses should be trained to deal with issues and mass awareness should be created. Sub Committee report prepared regarding the issue was presented. Report framed by the committee was headed by Naveen Kumar IFS and Dr. Satish Prakash, J S Balouria, S. N Sharma and Dr. Danish as its members. After making few modifications it was resolved by the members to implement the recommendations of the report in letter and sprit. It was also asserted that despite court orders for formation of fire policy, pending implementation it by government should be pursued. Regarding peasants a committee was framed to interact with the community and submit the report for further action. It was also resolved that implement of urban development projects for which Rs. 4500 crores (Rs 4200 under JNURM and Rs 300 crores for Mega Cities) stands already sanctioned and lying with state government for the last two years.
