Jammu, Sept 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rohiin Chandan today lauded the revolutionary Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms announced by the Government of India, describing them as a “historic decision” that will usher in a new era of economic growth and self-reliance. Issuing a press statement on the eve of Navratri, Chandan portrayed the reforms as a “new dawn” for the nation, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). The landmark reforms include a significant reduction in GST rates on over 400 essential items, slashing rates from 12% or 18% to a uniform 5%. This bold move is set to ease the financial burden on households, simplify tax compliance for businesses, and boost the consumption of Made-in-India products. Chandan termed the revamp a “GST Bachat Utsav” (Savings Festival), emphasizing its potential to deliver tangible benefits to the poor, the neo-middle class, and the middle class. “Whenever Prime Minister Modi addresses the nation, he brings a gift for the people. Today’s gift is the next-generation GST reform, coupled with a renewed push for swadeshi goods, reinforcing India’s journey towards self-reliance,” Chandan stated. Highlighting the transformative impact of these reforms, Chandan noted that they reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive growth. “The GST reforms will not only reduce prices for households but also streamline compliance for businesses, fostering an environment conducive to economic progress,” he said. He urged citizens to embrace PM Modi’s call for swadeshi goods, emphasizing that supporting indigenous products is a vital step towards achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat. “By choosing Made-in-India products, we strengthen our economy and empower our people,” he added. Chandan also highlighted India’s remarkable progress over the past decade under PM Modi’s leadership. “In the last 10 years, 25 crore people have risen out of poverty, forming a vibrant neo-middle class with new aspirations. This year, the government has furthered its commitment to their welfare by making income up to Rs 12 lakh tax-free. Combined with the GST rate cuts, this is a double bonanza for the poor, neo-middle class, and middle class,” he said. The GST reforms, timed with the auspicious occasion of Navratri, symbolize a renewed commitment to economic empowerment and self-reliance. Chandan called upon citizens to join the “GST Bachat Utsav” and support the government’s vision of a stronger, self-reliant India. “This Navratri, let us celebrate not just our traditions but also the transformative reforms that will shape a prosperous future for every Indian,” he concluded. |
