Shrine Board’s support, Philanthropist’s kindness give new life to 7 children with cochlear implants

early times report

Jammu, Sept 22: On the auspicious first day of Navratra, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board restored the gift of sound to two more children suffering from profound hearing loss through life-changing cochlear implant surgeries. These implants help restore hearing and sound to children who are congenitally deaf and mute, giving them a chance to develop speech and live fully in society.
This milestone builds on the hospital’s growing cochlear implant programme, made possible by the unwavering support of the Shrine Board, which has played a pivotal role in subsidising advanced procedures and extending logistical support so that cutting-edge healthcare reaches even the remotest parts of Jammu & Kashmir.
The two new recipients add to the list of children already helped by philanthropist Ms. Deepali Chawla, who has earlier sponsored five cochlear implant cases. Moved by the transformation she witnessed, she chose this Navratra to fund two more implants. She also personally met all the recipients and their families at the hospital, listening to their stories and encouraging them in their rehabilitation journey.
In addition to choosing high quality Cochlear implant systems for even the funded case, the surgeries featured for first time the use of groundbreaking SMARTNAV Electrode array navigation Technology on funded implant systems hence making sure that every patient has access to best in Implantable hearing technologies. This also provides insights about insertion quality as well as Neural Response telemetry!
“Seeing these children respond to sound for the first time is the most meaningful return on any investment and is very gratifying,” Ms. Chawla said. “I hope others will also come forward to support this noble cause.” She also recollected how it relates to some instance in past which motivated them to offer this assistance.
Dr. M. M. Mathavan, Facility Director, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH), said,
“It is heartening to witness the blessings of the Shrine Board and private donors converge to transform young lives. This programme showcases how public–private partnerships can bring world-class care to those who otherwise could not afford it.”
Dr. Yashpal, Executive Director, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), added,
“The Shrine Board has always been committed to making high-end healthcare accessible to every segment of society. Seeing these children begin their journey to hearing on Navratra is deeply inspiring and reinforces our resolve to continue expanding such initiatives.”
The surgeries were successfully performed under the leadership of Dr. Rohan Gupta, ENT & Cochlear Implant Surgeon. With the access to sound given through cochlear Implants and assurance of SmartNav Technology, the two children will now begin auditory rehabilitation — a journey toward speech, education and social inclusion. On this first Navratra, as devotees seek the blessings of the Goddess, this gift of hearing stands as a living testament to compassion and collective action.
