Mrs. Rupa Gupta welcomed the distinguished guests, editors, and contributors, and spoke about the significance of hosting such a milestone event at MIER College, followed by the ceremonial Book Launch. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rekha Koul emphasised that “this book is not merely an academic volume, but a call for collective action. It brings voices from across the world to show how women’s empowerment is central to achieving all Sustainable Development Goals.” She underlined the need to draw upon both global perspectives and local realities to dismantle barriers that still restrict women’s participation in leadership, education, and the workforce. Dr. Renu Gupta highlighted that “empowerment of women is both a right and a necessity. This book offers strategies, policies, and real stories that point towards a future where women lead not only their communities but also global change.” She stressed the importance of education as the strongest tool for enabling women to make meaningful contributions to sustainable development. Prof. Sarika Manhas shared her reflections as a contributor. She remarked that “while women in India and worldwide have made significant progress, structural and cultural barriers continue to limit their financial independence and decision-making power. The book shines a light on these challenges while also presenting pathways for change.” Prof. Adit Gupta applauded the efforts of the Centre in publishing the book on a pertinent topic and said that the book, “Women and Empowerment: Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5” compiles global and national perspectives on women’s leadership, inclusion, financial empowerment, disability rights, and education. It reinforces that gender equality is not only a matter of social justice but also a precondition for peace, growth, and sustainability. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Bharti Tandon, who acknowledged the editors, contributors, and guests for their inspiring participation.
