Vijaypur, Sept 22: The Department of Hindi at Government Degree College, Vijaypur successfully organized a painting competition on the values and principles of Mahatma Gandhi, as part of the ongoing Sewa Parv celebrations. The event was aimed at instilling a deeper understanding of Gandhian philosophies, such as non-violence (Ahimsa), truth (Satya), self-reliance (Swadeshi), and social responsibility. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, who showcased their artistic talents while expressing the profound impact of Gandhian ideals. Participants used diverse media—watercolours, oil paints, and sketching techniques—to visually represent the relevance of Gandhi's teachings in today’s world. The theme of the event was "Gandhi's Vision for a Better Society," focusing on how his principles continue to inspire positive social change and promote unity and peace. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ashu Vashisht, Principal of GDC Vijaypur, who emphasized the importance of nurturing the moral and ethical values of Mahatma Gandhi, especially in the modern context. "Mahatma Gandhi's ideals are timeless," [he/she] remarked. "Through events like these, we hope to ignite a spark of awareness and reflection among the youth about the significance of Gandhian principles in building a harmonious society." The competition was held under the banner of Sewa Parv, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting social service and awareness on national values. This year, the initiative focuses on celebrating the values that Mahatma Gandhi stood for, reminding citizens of their role in making India a better place. The jury members of the event were Anoop Kumar Bhagat (Associate Professor, Dept of Sociology), Prof. Ritu Bhagat (Associate Professor, Dept of Education) and Dr. Manoj Heer (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Dogri), The winners of the competition were as follows: 1. First Prize: Anjali Bhagat, B.A. Semester I 2. Second Prize: Ruhi, B.A. Semester I 3. Third Prize: Sharavan Narayan, B.A. Semester I The event was coordinated by Prof. Sonia Devi (Lecturer, Dept of Hindi) and co-coordinated by Prof. Meetu Sharma, Dr. Pooja Gupta, Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Dr. Anoop Singh and Prof. Manisha Bharti.
