As principal objective of University of Jammu is to spread education and float new innovative ideas to upgrade and transform the intellect wealth of society which forms the backbone of a better and prosperous social setup. “Empowerment is a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional and multi-layered concept. Women's empowerment is a process in which women gain greater share of control over resources-material, human and intellectual like knowledge, information, ideas and financial resources like money- and access to money and control over decision-making in the home, community, society and nation, and to gain `power,” said Rector Bhaderwah Campus Prof. I A Hamal further adding that according to the report of Government of India, "Empowerment means moving from a position of enforced powerlessness to one of power". Bhaderwah Campus started its academic journey on September 11, 2006 with three PG courses viz MCA, MBA and MA (English) and an e-learning certificate course for women. Education is a powerful tool to eradicate most of the ills from the society. “Education is the main instrument for transformation in any society. By educating the women folk there are substantial economic and social returns,” said Neelam Qayoom Sheikh ex-student of e-learning of 4th batch. She further said that by educating a woman, a country can reduce poverty, improve productivity, ease population pressure and offer its children a better future. A `package approach' is required for developing female education. Eight batches of e-learning have been trained in basic skills on computers so far and the certificates were awarded to the successful candidate by the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir State and Pro-Chancellor of University of Jammu on September 1st, 2007 Prof. Varun Sahni Vice Chancellor University of Jammu during his recent visit to Bhaderwah Campus along with UGC team commented that by spreading education, that too in the field of Information Technology among women of the society by Bhaderwah Campus is step advance towards the preparation of this society for the future which will not move an inch without computers. Prof. Hamal appreciated the commendable job done by the faculty and staff associated with the course and boosted their moral by saying that Universities are not directly linked with the society but indirectly these institutions of higher learning like Bhaderwah Campus build and transform the society intellect and of course the economy and prosperity. Besides, this he appealed the civil society to come forward and join hand in this mission to strengthen our society by strengthening the women folk because educating one woman means empowering a family.
