Early Times Report AKHNOOR, Sept 23: The annual Dangal was organized with great fervour at Pir Baba Faiz Bakhsh Bukhari's shrine in Gurha Brahmana, Akhnoor, witnessing participation from renowned national and international wrestlers. MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Lal, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The main bout (Ist Malia) worth Rs 1.50 lakh was contested between Chhota Saddam of Punjab and Hamid from Iran, with the latter emerging victorious. The second bout, also carrying a prize of Rs 1.50 lakh, saw Abhinayak of Uttar Pradesh defeating Chirag from Delhi. In the third bout, Lovepreet of Khanna outclassed Ballu from Maharashtra to claim the ?1 lakh prize. Addressing the gathering, MLA Mohan Lal said that wrestling tournaments are not just sports events but also an inseparable part of our culture and traditions. They promote unity, brotherhood, and provide youth with a positive direction. He urged young people to take up sports actively and keep away from social evils like drug abuse, while assuring that the Government is committed to promoting rural sports at every level. Over 100 bouts were held during the day-long wrestling event. Chairman of the organizing committee, Yashpal Sharma, along with Sarpanch Shamsher Singh, Ravi Singh, Ratan Lal Sharma, Parveen Sharma, Ammu Chib, Shunna Chib, and several others were present on the occasion. |
