Traditional Indian sports must be promoted: Balbir | | | early times report
Jammu, Sept 25: ammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan has stated that India is a land of diverse traditional sports, and it is important that we promote them. He said that games like kabaddi, kho-kho, gilli-danda, hockey, mallakhamb, and wrestling are not only a part of our cultural identity but also help in keeping the youth fit and disciplined. Balbir Ram Rattan was discussing efforts to promote traditional sports with BJP Sports Cell's state convenor Kuldeep Gupta, co-convenors Vikas Jandiyal, and Rajinder Kaul. He mentioned that Kuldeep Gupta, the convenor of the BJP Sports Cell, has a long and dedicated background in the field of kabaddi. Gupta is also serving as the Technical Director of the Asian Kabaddi Federation, playing a key role in promoting kabaddi not just in India but at the international level as well. Balbir further said that in today's digital age, where the youth are more inclined towards mobile phones and video games, there is an urgent need to revive traditional sports. These sports not only provide physical strength but also help develop qualities like team spirit, discipline, and leadership. Balbir Ram Rattan emphasized that it is the responsibility of the BJP Sports Cell to ensure these games gain equal popularity in both rural and urban areas. To achieve this, awareness campaigns should be conducted through schools, colleges, and local sports clubs. He also appealed to the government to make special provisions for the development of infrastructure for traditional sports so that the coming generations can connect with these games and make India proud on the international stage.
