Students of GCW Gandhinagar pay homage to Old Age Home | | |  early times report
Jammu, Sept 25: The NSS Unit–II and the Department of Food Science and Technology of PSPS Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu jointly organized a meaningful visit to the Home for Aged and Infirm, Amphalla Jammu on 25th September 2025. The visit was held under the esteemed patronage of the Principal, Dr. Geetanjali Andotra, who has always been a guiding force in inspiring the youth towards service and compassion. A group of 20 NSS Volunteers along with 16 Master’s students of Food Science and Technology actively participated in the visit as part of the ongoing celebration of Sewa Parv. The purpose of the visit was not only to interact with the elderly residents but also to extend support in the form of food and health essentials, thereby contributing to their well-being. On arrival, the volunteers and students were warmly welcomed by the staff and residents of the institution. They spent quality time with the inmates, engaging in heartfelt conversations and listening to their life stories, which created an environment of warmth and emotional bonding. The interaction was a source of joy for the aged residents, many of whom expressed their happiness at the presence and affection shown by the young visitors. As a gesture of care and responsibility, the volunteers, students, and staff of the college voluntarily provided food items and health essentials for the elderly inmates. This act of kindness reflected the spirit of Sewa Parv—service above self—and reinforced the values of empathy, compassion, and social responsibility among the youth. The students of the Department of Food Science and Technology also shared valuable insights about healthy dietary habits and nutrition management in old age, highlighting the role of balanced diets, adequate hydration, and lifestyle practices in ensuring better health for senior citizens. The visit left a profound impression on both the residents and the participating students. For the inmates, it was a moment of care, dignity, and reassurance that they are not forgotten. For the volunteers, it was a life-enriching experience that deepened their understanding of the NSS motto—“Not Me, But You.” Principal Dr. Geetanjali Andotra appreciated the combined efforts of NSS Unit–II and the staff and students of the Department of Food Science and Technology for undertaking such a noble initiative. She congratulated the staff of Food Science , NSS PO Unit -2, volunteers and students for their active participation and encouraged them to continue engaging in activities that spread kindness, compassion, and social solidarity. |
