KATHUA, Sept 25: Government Degree College for Women, Kathua observed Gandhi Jayanti 2025 with a two-week-long series of activities celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring values of truth, non-violence, simplicity, and service. The events were organized under the guidance of Principal **Dr. Savi Behl. The programme opened with an awareness lecture on “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and “Bhrashtachar Mukt India” conducted by the Drug De-addiction and Psychological Counseling Cell. A movie screening on Gandhi’s life**, jointly organized by the Departments of Political Science and History along with Dr. Rachna Devi, inspired students with Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and truth. Students showcased their talents and perspectives through a debate competition on the relevance of Gandhian philosophy, an on-the-spot painting competition on the themes of the Dandi March and Quit India Movement, a quiz competition on Gandhi’s life, and a debate on Satya and Ahimsa in contemporary times. Adding depth to the observance, the college hosted a visit to the District Library, Kathua on the theme Seva Hi Parv, a group discussion on Gandhi’s contribution to education, and a book reading session from My Experiments with Truth. A slogan writing competition titled “Voice of Truth”and an NSS-led cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan further enriched the celebrations. Applauding the active involvement of students and faculty, Principal Dr. Savi Behl urged them to imbibe Gandhian ideals in their daily lives. She emphasized that Gandhi’s principles of service, truth, and non-violence are timeless values essential for building a just and compassionate society. Faculty members including Prof. Seema Jolly, Dr. Rachna Devi, Dr. Renu Gupta, Dr. Sonika Jasrotia, Mr. Saurabh Dutta, Prof. Vibha Bharti, Dr. Satish Khajuria, Prof. Rajneesh Sharma, Dr. Usha Kiran, and Dr. Ritu Kumar Sharma, among others, contributed to the success of the programmes. |
