| Stone crusher operators threaten stir; to suspend supply to govt. agencies | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Sarita Jamwal Udhampur May 10- More than ten stone crusher units operating in the Udhampur district have strongly criticized the act of District administration and State Pollution Control Board for closing down four legally registered Crusher units in the district. Addressing a press conference here Crusher Union General Secretary Arun Gupta and Cashier Pawn Khajuria alleged SPCB for harassing stone crusher units operating in district on the name of pollution norms. They alleged that the units closed down by Board were operating more than thirty five years before fulfilling all norms and were legally registered with district industries department paying tax, electricity bills and pollution control board’s fee. They alleged that by closing down these units hundreds of skilled and unskilled workers have become jobless and are living hand to mouth and threatened to launch agitation and suspension of supply to government agencies till the closure order will not be revoked. They also criticized electricity department for snapping power supply to units despite having no outstanding with unit holders. Association also challenged deputy commissioner’s order in which he rescinds his predecessor’s order and close down the crushers. Unit holders alleged that despite fulfilling all pollution norms prescribed by board by installing proper pollution control gadgets, the SPCB was harassing the unit holders for the reasons best known to it .They added that hundreds of units are operating in Jammu and Kashmir without following norms but they are always being victimized without any reason despite fulfilling all the prescribed norms. Association members warned to launch agitation and come on road if units were not allowed to function within week and also threatened to launch legal battle last option left with them. Others who addressed press conference were Rakesh Khajurai, Nand Kishore, Parshotam Jamwal, Hameed, Sunil Badyal and Udhey Veer Singh. |
