Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 25: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), today held a meeting with the Swarankar Sang Trade Union, Jammu West, to deliberate on issues related to hallmarking and consumer protection in the jewellery sector. Members of the association raised serious concerns over the prevalence of fake hallmarking and under-caratage jewellery being sold in the region, which misleads consumers and erodes their trust. The meeting was chaired by Pankaj Atri, Joint Director (Scientist-D), BIS JKBO, in the presence of Sh. Charanjeet Lal Verma, President, Swarankar Sang Trade Union Jammu West, Surinder Bhasin, Chairman, and other office bearers of the association. During the interaction, BIS assured the association of strict enforcement of hallmarking regulations and highlighted the importance of consumer awareness for ensuring the authenticity of hallmarked jewellery. Sh. Atri urged jewellers to strictly adhere to hallmarking guidelines and encouraged consumers to actively verify jewellery using the BIS Care App to check genuine and fake HUID-marked items.
