| MIET organizes seminar on emerging technologies in engineering | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 10- The first ever Inter-college seminar for engineering institutes in Jammu on “Emerging Trends in Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, Electrical and Information Technology” was today organized at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) at its Kot Bhalwal campus today. The seminar was organized under the auspices of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Students Chapter, which has been established at MIET with over 1000 student members. MIET is also an Institutional Member of the ISTE, which provides access to a common platform for institutions engaged in Higher Technical Education in India for sharing of innovative practices, teaching methodologies, new developments and recognition of outstanding contribution of member institutions/individuals. On this occasion, Prof. S.K Sharma, Principal MIET was the Chief Guest, while Joint Director MIET, Prof. Ankur Gupta presided over the function. Senior faculty members from all technical institutions were also present on the occasion. The Seminar elicited enthusiastic participation from all the major engineering institutions in the region. Around 25 students from MIET, GCET, MBSCET, BGBSU and Department of Computer Applications, Jammu University presented technical seminars on different aspects of technological advancements and emerging trends in various engineering disciplines. Some of the topics covered by the participants were Pervasive Computing, Biological Memory, Gesture Recognition, Teleportation, Nano-Technology, Memristors, Optical Camouflage, Preventing Electricity Theft and Wi-Max Technology. Each seminar presentation was followed by questioning of the presenters by the panel of experts and the audience. The panel of experts who judged the paper presentations on technical depth, clarity of presentation and subject knowledge were impressed with the high-quality of the seminars presented. Ansuiya Makroo from CSE department of MIET was adjudged first for her seminar on “Gesture Recognition”, while Garvita Khajuria of MBS and Sonalika Sharma from GCET were adjudged second and third for their seminars on “Wi-Max Technologies” and “Teleportation” respectively. The top three participants were awarded certificates and cash prizes of Rs 1500, 1000 and 500 respectively by Prof. Sharma. All the participants were later presented with certificates of participation. Earlier in his inaugural address Prof S.K Sharma, appreciated the initiative of the ISTE Students Chapter at MIET in organizing an enlightening and thought-provoking technical seminar. He congratulated the participants for choosing relevant technical topics and holding the interest of the audience. He felt that the ISTE chapter at MIET should organize events which promote discussion and formulation of strategies to overcome the shortcomings in the technical education sector in the State. Prof. Ankur Gupta, Joint Director, MIET delivered the message of Chairman MIER, Group of Institutions, Prof. Arun K. Gupta and Director Dr. Renu Gupta who congratulated the ISTE Students Chapter for organizing the first ever Inter-College seminar for engineering institutes in Jammu and hoped that such events would become a regular feature of the Chapter. |
