| NC played saboteur at crucial phases of J&K’s history: Baig | | Mufti asks PDP cadres to prepare for a bigger role | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Baramulla, May 10- Asserting that PDP would continue to work hand-in-hand with the progressive and democratic forces in the country and the region to facilitate peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, the PDP Patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has asked the party cadres to prepare for a bigger and important role in the Kashmir resolution process. “If there is one lesson that has evidently come through in the last 20 years of turmoil is that the ultimate resolution of Kashmir lies in the political and democratic means,” he added. Addressing a series of public meetings in Bandipora and Baramulla assembly segments of the Baramulla-Kupwara parliamentary constituency today, Sayeed said that PDP has not only put the Kashmir issue in a specific and rational political and economic context, but has also laid strong foundations for its peaceful resolution in the emerging scenario of the regional and global political realities,” he said and added that any solution to the Kashmir issue would be focused around the party’s Self-Rule agenda which not only addresses the internal and external dimensions of the problem, but its political and economic aspects as well. Sayeed said the remarkable feature of the political transformation that transcended on Jammu and Kashmir in the post-2002 era was that for the first time the State Government came on the forefront of the resolution process. “From being a passive recipient of bilateral initiatives, the PDP-led Government, immediately after the 2002 elections, took the centre-stage and drove the peace process from the front,” he said and added that this political transformation accorded fresh credibility to the mainstream parties and public representatives in the State. Asserting that PDP stands for political power for the common good and not for a selected privileged few, Sayeed called upon the State’s young population to play a greater and more vibrant role in the political decision-making. “PDP believes that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to seek meaningful employment, freedom of expression, participation in decision-making and protection from socio-economic and political exploitation,” he said and added that the party would continue its struggle towards realizing this objective for the State’s emancipated young population. Sayeed said the PDP is the only political party in the State with an exclusive and comprehensive Youth Development Policy which envisions a productive role for the State’s youth while ensuring their economic and social security. “The State’s youth deserve extraordinary attention as they have been particularly and enormously affected by the negative consequences of the conflict and economic deprivation,” he said and added that not only the Government but the entire nation, including individuals, institutions and organizations, have to be brought together in a spirit of creative enterprise to widen the economic and employment space for the State’s youth. Addressing the meeting senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig said PDP has contributed a great deal towards creating conducive environment in the sub-continent, particularly within the State, for a realistic and just resolution of the Kashmir issue. “The party, after putting Kashmir resolution on the Government agenda, will not only continue but even escalate and expand its endeavors to mobilize public opinion for undertaking greater confidence building measures to reach a substantial solution of the problem,” he said and added that right from its inception, PDP, has advocated an end to violent and militant means for resolving the problem and campaigned for a process of dialogue and engagement for the peaceful settlement of the issue. Senior PDP leaders Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Peer Mohammad Hussain, Yasir Reshi and Sayeed Basharat Bukhari also addressed the meetings.
