Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 27: The Jal Shakti (I&FC) Department Jammu, today released water in the Main Ranbir Canal after its temporary restoration. The recent major flood events in Kathua and Jammu districts had caused extensive damage to the irrigation canal infrastructure, including breach of embankments, siltation and choking of syphons, etc. at Main Ranbir Canal, Kathua Canal, besides Main Tawi Canal & Main Ravi Canal of RTIC Department. This had raised significant concerns among the agricultural community about timely availability of irrigation water to the standing kharif crops. The worthy Financial Commissioner (ACS) Jal Shakti Department personally visited the major damaged locations and issued directions to take up the restoration works on war footing. Accordingly, the department swung into action and started the temporary restoration of these canals in view of the urgency of providing water to the farmers in the shortest possible time so as save the standing crops. This tireless effort of the Jal Shakti (I&FC) Department Jammu under the guidance of Financial Commissioner (ACS) Jal Shakti Department has resulted in temporary restoration of almost all the major canal systems of Jammu region viz. Main Ranbir Canal, Main Tawi Canal and Ravi Canal.
