JMC Commissioner reviews street light maintenance | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 27: In a decisive step to improve civic amenities in the city, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav today chaired a meeting of officers and officials of Electrical wing of JMC to review status of repair and maintenance of street lights installed in the jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal Corporation. During the meeting, the Commissioner took strong note of the non-functional street lights reported from various parts of Jammu city. Expressing displeasure over negligence in timely repair and monitoring, Dr. Yadav ordered the suspension of three employees of the street light repair wing and attached them to the Kot Bhalwal dumping site until further orders. The Commissioner emphasized that street lighting is a critical component of urban infrastructure, directly linked with the safety and convenience of citizens. He pointed out that poorly lit streets not only cause inconvenience to the public but also pose security risks, particularly during odd and night hours. Dr. Yadav directed the officials of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and the Executive Engineer (Electric), JMC, to ensure immediate redressal of public complaints regarding non-functional street lights. He stressed the need for a robust monitoring system, timely field inspections, and strict accountability of field staff. The Commissioner also instructed that proper maintenance schedules must be followed, and faulty lights should be repaired or replaced within a stipulated time frame. Citizens should not be made to wait for basic facilities like functional street lights, he added. Reiterating JMC's commitment to strengthening civic services, the Commissioner urged all concerned departments to work in close coordination to improve service delivery and win the trust of the people of Jammu. |
