9/23/2006 11:58:59 PM

Srinagar, Sep 23 Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to take back all doctors who had left the state, an official spoksman said.

He said the government is also taking a decision to improve services in all health institutions .

Doctors who left the state and are interested to return to their native land will be taken back and adjusted against available vacancies, he said.

He said a high level expert committee would be constituted to look into the grievances of the doctors and suggest measures to improve the health and medical sector.

This, he said was disclosed by the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mr Mangat Ram Sharma while addressing doctors on doctor’s day.

It was also decided that all those health institutions, which have sufficient men and machinery, would be made to render their services to the patients round the clock.

He said where both sub-district hospitals and primary health centres exist and have sufficient stock to cater to the need of the area will be shifted to other areas which lack such facilities.

He said government will also take appropriate action for special allowance to the doctors who are posted in hilly and far-flung areas besides, decreasing their stay from 2 years to one and half year and arrange timely refresher courses for them.

Mr Sharma said our doctors have achieved super specialities in different disciplines and got name and fame in and outside the country. But, he said, that there are some complaints of non-practisation of professional duties in treating the patients during office hours in the hospitals and diverting patients to their private clinics.

''I am not against private practice as the government institutions still lack better facilities and so patients are taking advantage of private clinics.

Mr Sharma said Union Government has sanctioned funds for upgradation of both Medical Colleges at Srinagar and Jammu to the levels of AIIMS, which will also help to improve medicare facilities in the state.
