| 3.4 million Mobile users, J&K telecom growing fast | | | AD Singh Jammu, May 10: As all the top telecom players in India rush to the latest telecom hotspot, the competition has ultimately resulted into a phone ringing in almost of 32% pockets in J&K. With the entry of three new service providers in J&K market and two more to follow soon the market is going to be tough soon but the point of saturation doesn’t seems to be near as the decline in the call rates along with handsome offers and alluring schemes flooding the market has resulted into a substantial decrease in the mobile keeping cost which in turn has resulted into a steep increase in the total number of mobile users in the State swelling the figure of total number of mobile users in J&K to 3449441. Though J&K remained neglected on the Telecom map for almost a decade and further the Private players ventured the market after a long delay but at present J&K is the latest hotspot for the telecom players. According to Vodafone, J&K which is though a ‘C’ Circle State matches to ‘A’ Circle States in terms of the Average Revenue per Subscriber and indeed appeals to the Service providers. According to the service providers the main reason for the delay in the entry of private service providers in the J&K market was the large geographical area with low population density and rough terrain. But as more and more service providers venture out the J&K the competition in the market is making mobile phone more and more affordable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and this is the reason that the figure of the total number of subscribers had an unprecedented rise by 20.56% in the last four months whereas, last month itself has registered a growth of 5.52% which has brought J&K on third spot in terms of growth rate of teledensity in comparison to other States in India following Orissa and Bihar which registered a growth rate of 7.16% and 6.40% respectively. According to the last updates Airtel is leading the race with 1633719 subscribers followed by Aircel with 832281 which has left BSNL behind with a small margin as BSNL has been able to enroll and maintain 832050 subscribers till now. Further with Reliance claiming to have rolled in above 1 lac subscribers and Tata Indicom claiming an enrolment of about 50000 subscribers in the first three months of there launch. Tata, Reliance and Vodafone which are the new entrants in the market share a total of around 155000 subscribers.
