The question so often being asked in April2009 is that who will form the next Government at Delhi, will it be UPA, NDA, Third Front, Forth front ? The things do not rest here only , will it be “Mayawati Front”, “Pawar Front” or “Mukherjee front” is also being asked. And while I was still in confusion I was blasted with another question ::is there any chance for Laloo Yadav or Devegowda to be the leader of 15th Lok Sabha ???. The election forecast experts and commentators too are confused . No body is able to do a committal forecast except that it will be either BJP or Congress who would emerge as the single largest party. Any how the IT tools have provided some face savings to the “ Political Forecasters “ since they can still cleverly use the IT backed graphics to impress the viewers or scare the political parties of dangers ahead.
Behaviour of one who works on some logic or some principle could be predicted, but one who nurses no logic/ principle could negate a wisest prediction.But the inferences that could still be drawn are :: (i) The politicians have succeeded in landing the common voter citizen at cross roads. Common man could be easily pushed along any one of the lanes under economic/ social/religious/sectoral influences. (ii) The weakening Indian National Congress has provided favourable environments to regional/ local / individual political centers to grow (iii) Under the circumstances any one can so easily predict that 15th Lok sabha will be a hung one.(iv) But no one can predict whether CPM will go with UPA or not , and like. (iv) The allegations and counter allegations during election campaigns are simply to befool the voters and secure some numbers for negotiations later on for simple power sharing ignoring all logic and moral.
All those who call themselves as SECULAR PARTIES have prime agenda of keeping BJP out of power. They accuse BJP of Communal politics when ever BJP talks of some issue that concerns the Hindu. Where as they themselves align with religion and caste based politics. Congress must understand that the so called SECULAR Laloo Yadav or Mulayam Yadav or Ram Vilas Paswan do not want to see only BJP weak, they want Congress to also weaken. Weak Congress too has become party to this game. These SECULAR parties swear only in the name of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Iasaaee. Do they mean that India has only four religious sects ? If so then where are Jains, Bhuddists, Jews and the like ? Surely they talk of only HMSI since HMSI form large vote bank. Do they mean that all those who vote for BJP are communal people ?. The “SECULAR” are more interested to make Congress walk on crutches.
Muslims in India are politically the most exploited lot. The so called secular parties and leaders have succeeded to exploit the Muslims in the name of dangers from the Hindu majority. Where as the Hindu majority too has been exploited in the name of castes / regions/ sects. The politicians are ruling both Hindu and Muslims , majority of whom are all the day busy only in earning two square meals.
The national interests do not appear to be of top priority even to a national party like Congress.
By any standards the 26th November 08 militant attack on Hotel Taj / Nariman Bhawan / Chattarpati Shivajee Terminal ( VT Station) should have alarmed any Government the most. The Prime Minister of India had out rightly accused Pakistan Government for engineering the militant attack in which nearly 200 innocent civilian were lost. But thereafter the affairs were unconcernedly handled. So far Pakistan has instead so cleverly managed to stand alongside India as a victim of terrorism before the whole world. Only thing Pakistan has accepted is that may be Pakistani lands have been used by some militant elements and Pakistan is ready to work with India to investigate the crime . And to add to this America has been advising India to cooperate with Pakistan in investigation since US is also concerned about 26/11 killings for the reasons of some Americans too having been killed in attack. This well speaks of the mental and moral health of the Congress lead UPA Government . No doubt it also speaks of the ”unconcerned” voter citizen. Had it not been so the UPA Government would have not dared to venture into such like political gamesmanship based on the religion linked vote bank game plans.
Indian National Congress too has grown weak over the years. The main reason has been that the Congress party has no internal democracy in the party. The internal organizational elections are not held. Even local leaders are thrust from the top. The Candidates for contesting Assembly or Parliament elections are not selected involving the local cadres and are instead selected by a few at the “TOP”.. Therefore, the party cadres have nearly lost the local grips worth a working influence and are weak. The smaller parties without whom the numbers can not be build almost black mail the National parties. Under the circumstances the national level parties like Congress, BJP and the Communists are compelled to give priority to local issues over the issues involving acute national security simply to carry along some local political leaders in the race for securing working numbers in the Assembly or Parliament.
So it is the cheap politics including compromise with small political parties / musclemen/ economically rich / caste leaders/ community leaders/ religious considerations that has to be used by parties like Indian National Congress or BJP so that they can stay in the number game. To quote ::: Lalu Yadav in April 2009 has nearly said that the leaders in the Congress, except Sonia Gandhi and Man Mohan Singh , are not true to the cause of Congress, the people and survival of UPA . But since Laloo Prashad , a Minister in UPA Government, has expressed love and loyalty for Sonia Jee and Man Mohan Jee he has still been retained in cabinet although even the local Bihar Congress leadership has on 20 April demanded removal of Lalu Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan from Union Cabinet. It clearly supports my inference that the leaders in Congress do not have any organizational base. Laloo has even accused (18 April 09 ) Congress of being a party to demolition of Babri Masjid but still “Prime” Congress leaders do not rule out hugging Laloo Yadav in 15th Lok Sabha . Similarly with the election fever on rise , DMK ( M. Karunanidi ) has asked Man Mohan government to snap diplomatic ties with Sri Lanka to earn the sentimental good will of some innocent Tamilians in the name of LTTE ( but the UPA Government will not ). Sita Ram Yachuri ( CPM) has accused Congress of total anti people policies but has also hinted that possibility of supporting UPA after 16 May should not be taken as ruled out. CPM GS Prakash Karat has said on 19 April that the issues that forced CPM to withdraw support from UPA Government still exist but CPM would welcome in case Congress extends support to third front from out side.
So Congress party should see that both BJP and Congress go organizationally strong through internal party democracy & strong cadres . Congress can not return to original strength simply banking upon the “ elite” class of leaders that it is presently nursing and holding fast one point agenda of opposing BJP for every thing. Advani had called for laying hands on the illegal deposits ( nearly 1500 Billin US $ / Rs.75 Lac Crore ) of Indians in Swiss banks. Congress should have simply said that it already holds such opinion. But instead Singvi & Kapil Sibal started finding fault with BJP and Rahul also entered the debate on 21 April while speaking in an election rally. This has sent wrong signals since some people may think that may be more of Congress elite are having illegal / criminal deposits in Swiss banks. Let Congress and BJP contest each other on the basis of comparative performance . May be either of them have to stay out of power for a few more years . After 15th Lok Sabha results are out, both Congress and BJP must even help any one of the two to form a government. It would make Bharat stronger. May be some experts will laugh at my suggestion, but Indians can check erosion of Nationality only this way.. Pakistan and USA are weak at present, so opportunity should not be lost to win the lost ground. Does not matter who there after secures majority in the 16th Lok Sabha. Any how signs of the Common man rising , though faint, are emerging. The two political “CORPORATES” must sense the signs , otherwise the corrections if forced by common man , may not be that pleasant.
