DC chairs NCORD meeting, directs strict enforcement & awareness measures | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Sept 29: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today chaired a meeting of concerned officers to review the functioning of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) in the district. The DC emphasized the need for a collective and sustained approach to curb the menace of drug abuse. He called upon stakeholder departments to intensify awareness campaigns at the grassroots level, involving Panchayati Raj Institutions, educational institutions and civil society to sensitize the youth about the harmful effects of drug addiction. The School Education Department was directed to organize regular activities in schools and colleges highlighting the ill effects of drug use. The DC also urged BSF authorities and other security agencies to engage youngsters in constructive pursuits, particularly sports and cultural programmes to channelize their energy positively. Further, the Excise and Taxation Officer was instructed to conduct surprise raids to check the sale of illicit liquor and prevent drug trafficking. The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to work in close coordination, ensure timely reporting of cases and strengthen enforcement in vulnerable areas. He also asked the Health Department to provide regular counseling and rehabilitation support to affected persons. The meeting was attended by ACR Kathua Vishav Partap Singh, officers from BSF and district administration including Health, Education, Excise and other line departments. |
