Gandhian Centre, JU, marks Gandhi Jayanti through Community Outreach | | |  early times report
Jammu, Oct 2: Under the patronage of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, the Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the SKUAST Jammu Morning Walkers Association, celebrated Mahatma Gandhi's birthday (Gandhi Jayanti) with great enthusiasm and fervor. The program was attended by around 100 prominent members of Civil Society from R.S. Pura, who gathered to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation. Shri Raj Kumar Gupta, President of the SKUAST Jammu Morning Walkers Association, expressed his appreciation for the Gandhian Centre's efforts in organizing the event, highlighting the importance of Gandhian values in contemporary society. Other notable attendees included Dr. Ankur Rastogi , Shri Vikram Gupta, Vinod Aggarwal, Sh. Varun Sharma, Sh. Mohit Chowdhary, Sh. Rakesh Sharma, and Sh. Suneet Kumar. The event provided a platform for participants to reflect on Mahatma Gandhi's teachings and their relevance in today's world. The program was well-coordinated by the staff of the Dhanvantri library and members of the Gandhian Committee for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu. This celebration is part of the Gandhian Centre's ongoing efforts under the "Seva" program, which aims to promote social responsibility and community engagement. In the recent past, the Centre has organized several programs, including: - A visit to the children's home in Ambphala, promoting care and support for underprivileged children. - An Anemia Camp, inaugurated by Additional Chief Secretary,UT of Jammu and Kashmir,Shri Shant Manu ji,IAS, highlighting the importance of health and wellness. - A donation drive in collaboration with the NSS unit of the University of Jammu, fostering a spirit of giving and community service. - An exhibition of books, inaugurated by Shri Pramod Jain, Former Senior IAS Officer,UT of Jammu and Kashmir and currently Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Administrative Reforms Commission(ARC) , promoting literary appreciation and knowledge. - Interaction with the morning walkers of Gandhinagar, encouraging community engagement and dialogue. - A Plantation Drive, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation. The collaboration between the Gandhian Centre and the SKUAST Jammu Morning Walkers Association demonstrates the power of community engagement and the importance of promoting Gandhian values in our daily lives. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to uphold the principles of truth, non-violence, and compassion, as espoused by Mahatma Gandhi. The Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu further plans to take a series of key initiatives in sync with the Gandhian thought and philosophy in near future.
