NCC, NSS Units of SMVDU organises Blood Donation Camp
10/2/2025 5:42:10 PM

early times report

Jammu, Oct 2: The NCC and NSS units of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, in collaboration with the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, successfully organized a blood donation camp at the SMVDU campus.
The initiative brought together students, staff, and community members in support of a life-saving cause.
The camp was coordinated by Dr. Varun Dutta, NCC Coordinator, SMVDU, and Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Coordinator, SMVDU, with support from Dr. Pallav Sharma, Medical Aid Centre, SMVDU. The drive witnessed an impressive turnout and enthusiastic participation. Dr. Neeti from GMC, Jammu, supervised the camp and provided essential medical support.
Students and staff members of SMVDU generously donated blood, demonstrating compassion, solidarity, and a commitment to social responsibility. Notably, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers played a pivotal role in the success of the camp.
They actively assisted in mobilizing donors, managing the registration process, and extending logistical support throughout the event.
This altruistic gesture will significantly benefit individuals battling Thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder that often requires frequent transfusions.
Er. Sudhir Sethi, President, J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, Jammu, emphasized the critical role of regular blood donation camps in supporting Thalassemia patients.
He highlighted the rising demand for blood due to repeated transfusions and urged the community to actively contribute, not only by donating blood but also by preventing the birth of affected children through genetic counseling and proper antenatal care. Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU and Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, JKAS, Registrar, SMVDU, appreciated the efforts of the organizing team. They underscored that blood donation is not merely an act of kindness but a lifeline for those in need.
They further noted that each unit of blood donated represents hope and strength for patients courageously battling Thalassemia.
