Jammu, Oct 2: ardar Beant Singh State University (SBSSU), Gurdaspur, organized a large-scale cleanliness drive under the banner of Swachhata Hi Seva-2025, a flagship initiative of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The 2025 edition, themed “Swachhotsav”, is being celebrated nationwide from 17th September to 2nd October, blending the joy of collective action with the responsibility of sustaining a clean environment.
The drive at SBSSU was held on 30th September 2025 at 7:00 AM, beginning from the Main Gate of the University, and was led by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. S. K. Misra.
The cleanliness campaign covered areas from the village Baryar bus stand to adjoining localities, the front and outer roads of the university, as well as a comprehensive cleaning of all inner campus roads. Students, hostel residents, NSS volunteers, faculty, and staff participated enthusiastically, making the initiative a true collective movement.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Misra emphasized that cleanliness is not merely an occasional activity but a way of life. He urged students to take personal responsibility for maintaining cleanliness, especially in hostels and common areas, while stressing the need to reduce plastic usage and dispose of waste only in designated dustbins.
Highlighting the link between a clean environment, health, and learning, he encouraged students to become role models whose positive practices extend beyond the campus to society at large.
The event witnessed active participation from senior university officials, including Dr. Nirmal Singh Kalsi (Dean Planning & Development), Dr. Gurpadam Singh (Dean Student Affairs), Dr. Rajesh Sharma (NSS Coordinator), Sh. Tarun Mahajan (Program Officer, NSS), Wardens Ms. Anita Suman and Sh. Indesh Attri, Ms. Jaspreet Kaur (Associate Dean), Dr. Vinod Kumar, Sh. Gurmeet Singh, Sh. Vikramji Singh (In-charge Sweeping & Horticulture), and Sh. Shiv Singh among others. Their presence and active involvement further strengthened the spirit of the campaign.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor reiterated that the essence of Swachhata Hi Seva lies in wholehearted citizen participation. He expressed confidence that SBSSU’s commitment will inspire its students to become ambassadors of cleanliness and sustainability both within and outside the campus.
