Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 2: Live For Others – Being Helpful Foundation (NGO), in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Talla Jewellers, successfully organized a two-day Cleanliness Drive under the “Save River Tawi Campaign” at Rajiv Colony, Tawi Ghat on the occasions of Ashtmi & Maha Navmi. The event was supported by NSS Cluster University of Jammu, Department of Sociology (University of Jammu), and GCW Parade.
During the campaign, volunteers collected and segregated nearly 2783 kilograms of waste materials. All non-biodegradable items were carefully placed at designated collection points, ensuring that only the holy Saakh flows through the river. The drive also motivated locals to take collective responsibility for protecting the purity of River Tawi and the surrounding environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Kashish Gupta, CEO, Talla Jewellers, emphasized, “It is our responsibility to give back to nature.
Preserving River Tawi is not just about cleanliness but about safeguarding the cultural and spiritual lifeline of Jammu.”
Adding to this, Mr. Vivek Parihar Director & CEO, LFO-BHF highlighted, “Sustainable efforts like these should become a continuous practice. Only through community participation can we achieve a pollution-free and healthy environment for the future. Moreover he appreciated Mr. Samar, Environment Domain Incharge & Abhinandan Sharma, Senior Member and other volunteers for their tireless efforts in making this campaign a great success.”
Sharing her perspective, Ms. Vishwa Raksha, HOD, Dept. of Sociology, University of Jammu, said, “Environmental cleanliness is linked with social well-being. River Tawi holds cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance, and it is our duty to preserve it.”
Further, Prof. Hema Gandotra, Associate Professor, Dept. of Sociology, University of Jammu, remarked, “Awareness and action must go together. Educating youth and communities about their role in environmental conservation is the key to lasting change.”
The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from NGO members, students, NSS volunteers, and local residents.
The members who were present during this campaign were “Uniting Devotion and Conservation: LFO-BHF Leads River Tawi Cleanliness Drive”
