Jammu, Oct 3: The Self-Defence/Disaster Management Committee of G.G.M. Science College, Jammu, under the guidance and mentorship of Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, organized a Poster Making Competition to promote awareness on disaster preparedness and management. The event aimed to educate students on the importance of disaster risk reduction while fostering a culture of safety, resilience, and community responsibility. Students participated with great enthusiasm, creatively portraying themes of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery through their posters. The central theme “Disaster Preparedness and Management” was vividly reflected in their artistic expressions, showcasing awareness as well as innovative approaches to handling disasters. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, G.G.M. Science College Jammu, emphasized, “It is essential for students to understand disaster management strategies. Competitions like these not only enhance their creativity but also develop a sense of responsibility towards society.” The event was successfully conducted under the efforts of the Self-Defence/Disaster Management Committee comprising Dr. Shafia Saleem (Convener), Dr. Anil Kumar (Co-Convener), Dr. Neha Mahajan, Prof. Sunita Kumari, Dr. Neha Sharma, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Prof. Gourav Gupta, Prof. Rajiv Kumar, Prof. Mehnaz Bano, and Dr. Anil Thappa. Their collective guidance and coordination reflected the college’s commitment to strengthening disaster awareness and preparedness among the youth.
