Darhal, Oct 3: Government Degree College Darhal celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great respect and enthusiasm, remembering the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, the messenger of peace and non-violence. The entire college atmosphere was filled with the spirit of truth, simplicity, and harmony as teachers and students gathered to honor the great leader. The program was held under the guidance of Principal Prof. Zameer Ahmed Mirza, who praised the participation of faculty and students. Dr. Ata ul Rehman Malik, Head of the Department of Political Science, delivered a detailed lecture on Gandhi Ji’s life. He spoke about his early years in Porbandar, his education in England, and his awakening in South Africa after witnessing injustice. Dr. Malik explained Gandhi Ji’s three core principles—Truth, Non-violence, and Peaceful Resistance—which became powerful tools in India’s freedom struggle. Dr. Saleem Wani, Head of the Department of English, inspired the students with his words, calling Gandhi “a guide for humanity and a symbol of truth and kindness.” He reminded students that while academic success is important, the real achievement is to be a good human being. His message encouraged everyone to live with honesty, compassion, and service to others. Other distinguished faculty members also shared their thoughts, Dr. Ghulam Abass, and Dr Mohd Slaeem Head of Persian and Head Department of English spoke about Gandhi’s dream of self-reliant villages. Dr. Taseem Ahmed, Head of Geography, emphasized discipline and order in life, while Dr. Mohd Akhlaq, Head of Mathematics, spoke about the universal appeal of Gandhi’s philosophy that inspires people across the world. Their addresses motivated students to adopt Gandhi’s teachings in their daily lives to become better individuals and responsible citizens. The event was smoothly coordinated by a dedicated team of faculty members, including Dr. , Prof. Anzar Ahmed, Dr. Raja Shahid, Dr. Mohd Shakeel Kataria, Dr. Mohd Shakoor, Prof. Beenish, Dr. Abdul Ghani Majid, Mr. Altaf Hussain, and Mr. Jameel Ahmed. Their collective efforts made the program successful and memorable. The celebration ended with a note of thanks and a prayer, leaving the students inspired to follow Gandhi’s timeless message of peace, tolerance, and truth in their own lives.
