Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 3: Balbir Ram Rattan, former Vice Chairman, J&K SC, ST, BC Development Corporation, extended warm congratulations to Lt. Gen. Rakesh Sharma, AVSM, SM (Retd), President J&K Ex Services League and Senior Vice President of Gandhi Global Family (GGF) on being honoured with the prestigious "Seva Award" by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir at a state-level function held at SKICC, Srinagar.
The award, conferred during an event organised by the Departments of Culture & Education, Jammu and Kashmir, recognizes Lt. Gen. Sharma's extraordinary and selfless contributions to humanity through his leadership during Operation Sindoor and Operation Rahat.
While lauding the honour, Balbir Ram Rattan said that Lt. Gen. Rakesh Sharma's unwavering commitment to public service, both in uniform and as a civilian, is an inspiration to all. His service during times of extreme crisis exemplifies the highest values of humanity, courage, and patriotism.
During Operation Sindoor, Lt. Gen. Sharma led the mobilisation of ex-servicemen across Jammu & Kashmir to secure vulnerable points and areas. His efforts played a pivotal role in assisting the army and ensuring the safety of civilians during heightened cross-border shelling in Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor, Uri, and Tangdhar. His leadership not only reinforced security but also provided much-needed emotional support to affected families.
In Operation Rahat, Lt. Gen. Sharma worked under the guidance of Padma Dr. S.P. Varma to deliver timely rescue and relief to victims of devastating floods and cloudbursts in regions like Chushoti and Kathua.
Balbir Ram Rattan noted that the "Seva Award" is a true recognition to the decades-long dedication of Lt. Gen. Sharma towards nation-building and humanitarian service. He expressed hope that such recognition will encourage more individuals, especially youth and ex-servicemen, to contribute actively in times of crisis and continue the legacy of selfless service.
