| Plantation watchers of RD without salary since five years | | | Early Times report Srinagar, May 11- Hundreds of daily rated plantation watchers in various blocks offices of rural development in Jammu and Kashmir are without salary since past five years. The plantation watchers appointed on daily rates in Rural Development Department (RDD) have not received the salaries from past five months. This has created resentment against the government among these employees who have been working even without any remuneration. They claimed that the department is intentionally withholding their salaries. It is to mention that more than three thousand plantation watchers had been appointed by the state government during previous years under various Schemes of Rural development department and their salaries are being drawn from the project costs. "From past five years we have not been paid salary by the department despite our approach to the Director Rural Development Department but of no avail” an employee wishing not to be named said adding they continue to withhold salaries of the poor people. These daily rated workers are suffering a great deal as they are unable to fulfill the requirements of their families. "Our families are starving due to withholding of wages to us," he added. Another daily wager, pleading anonymity criticized the functioning of the department said, "Despite repeated requests to the officials, but the wages have not been released". They claimed that hundreds of such workers have been denied salaries by the Block Development officers even the Babus of these offices charge them money to give attendance. "Some of the plantation watch and wards were regularized and are paid monthly salaries but left out daily wagers are facing lot of problems due to non disbursement of salaries” alleged another employee. "We are getting a meager salary of Rs 2100 per month. We were somehow managing our family affairs but since past five years we have been facing starvation as our salaries have been withheld for reasons known to the department," said a female employee from south Kashmir. "The shopkeepers are refusing to give us further credit”, she added.
