udhampur, Oct 6: Psychological Counseling cell of GCOE Jammu organized an open house discussion on Mental Health Issues Among Youth on 6-10-2025 bringing together students, faculty, mental health professionals, and non teaching staff for an open dialogue on challenges faced by today’s generation. Speaking at the open house, Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Principal of the College emphasized the urgency of addressing mental health concerns among young people she assured students that College will continue to strengthen its counseling services, host awareness initiatives, and collaborate with experts to ensure that mental health remains a priority in the institution’s academic and community agenda. Dr. Ambica Kumari, Psychologist , also highlighted the importance of sustained efforts beyond the event itself. "Our responsibility does not end with discussion—it extends to consistent action. By strengthening peer support systems, engaging parents and educators, and collaborating with mental health professionals, we can create a culture of empathy and care within the campus community." The event Organisers, Prof. Anuradha Choudhary, Dr. Shalini Rana , Prof. Balwan Singh, Dr. Suraj Prakash, ,Prof. Kiran thappa and Dr. Sonam Gandotra expressed appreciation for the active participation of students, faculty, and expert during the open house. Prof. Sunanda Rani, Dr. Rajinder Kour and Prof. Sushma bala also participated actively. The session aimed to create awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage young people to seek support for mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, and peer pressure. Speakers shared insights on coping mechanisms, available resources, and the importance of fostering a supportive environment both within educational institutions and at home. Students actively participated in the discussion, sharing their personal perspectives and concerns, while faculty members emphasized the role of empathy, mentorship, and counseling services in addressing these challenges. The open house concluded with a call to action for continuous conversations around mental well-being, the strengthening of counseling services on campus, and collaboration with mental health organizations to provide ongoing support.
