Vijaypur, Oct 6: he Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College (GDC), Vijaypur, today launched an intensified Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, featuring a series of engaging activities including indoor sports competitions. The initiative, held under the auspices of the J&K AIDS Control Society, aims to spread accurate knowledge, combat stigma, and promote a healthy lifestyle among students and the wider community. The awareness drive strategically integrated popular indoor sports to draw high student participation, fostering a spirit of learning and competitive camaraderie. Key events included: Carrom Competition: A carrom tournament was organized to bring students together for a social, yet competitive, awareness-building activity. Team comprising of Abhay Kumar (B. A .Sem III) and Lalit Kumar (B. A .Sem I) won the carrom competetion. Chess Match: An intellectual chess competition was held, symbolizing the strategic 'mind-game' required in the fight against HIV/AIDS, promoting thoughtful engagement with the issue. Team comprising of Tanish Dhotra (B. Com .Sem I) and Shubham (B. A .Sem I) won the chess competetion. These activities are part of a broader campaign that includes educational drives, walkathons, and poster-making competitions. Dr. Ashu Vashisht, Principal of GDC Vijaypur, addressed the participants, emphasizing the institution's commitment to public health. "By integrating awareness messages with engaging activities like these indoor sports, we aim to spread accurate information and foster a supportive, stigma-free environment. Our goal is to empower every student to take proactive steps for their health and become informed ambassadors in society," Dr. Vashisht stated. Dr. Arti Sharma, Convenor of the Red Ribbon Club, highlighted the significance of youth involvement. She further added that the Red Ribbon Club is dedicated to mobilizing our students as agents of change. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students, making the awareness drive a significant success. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Anita Jamwal, Prof. Mamta Gupta, Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat, Prof. Ritu Bhagat, Dr. Manoj Heer, Prof. Sonia Devi, Dr. Anoop Singh, Dr. Pooja Gupta, Prof. Manisha, Dr. Manmeet Kour and Prof. Dheeraj Singh Jasrotia.
