Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 6: A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled "When Patients Walk - Diagnosis Talks" was held in Jammu at Hotel Radisson Blu, organised by the Institute of Neurosciences, Medanta - The Medicity, Gurugram. The event brought together leading neurologists and neurosurgeons to highlight the enduring importance of bedside observation in neurological diagnosis. The meet underscored that "sometimes diagnosis begins not with a stethoscope, but with footsteps," reminding clinicians that gait, posture, and movement remain vital diagnostic cues even in an era of advanced imaging. Two stalwarts of neurological sciences were felicitated with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their exemplary contributions to medicine and patient care - Dr. Sushil Razdan, Senior Consultant Neurologist, Medanta - The Medicity, Gurugram, for pioneering neurology services and decades of work in remote areas of Jammu & Kashmir; and Dr. S. K. Gupta, Ex-Professor and Head, Department of Neurology, Government Medical College, Jammu, for establishing the region's first neurology division and mentoring generations of students. Awards of Honour were also conferred upon Dr. Jyoti Sehgal, Director - Neurosciences, Medanta - The Medicity, Gurugram, who served as the keynote speaker. The evening included a heartfelt tribute to Late Dr. Anil Sharma, the renowned neurosurgeon who passed away in February 2025. A commemorative citation was presented to his wife, Dr. Anjana Kesar, in recognition of his service, compassion, and leadership in building neurosurgical care in the region. The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Pawan Malhotra, Principal, ASCOMS Jammu and President, IMA Jammu Chapter, along with senior faculty, hospital administrators, and members of the media. Organisers emphasized that clinical observation remains one of medicine's most powerful diagnostic tools; a timeless skill that technology should complement, not replace. "Every patient's walk tells a story - if only we learn to listen," the moderator Dr. Gaurav Vaid observed, encapsulating the theme of the CME. Organised under the aegis of senior neurologists and the Jammu medical fraternity, the CME blended academic learning, recognition, and remembrance; reaffirming that medicine is not merely a science, but a lifelong commitment to empathy, excellence, and human service.
