District Road Safety Committee meeting held at Kathua | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Oct 6: The 22nd meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was today convened here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma. The meeting was attended by ADC Vishavjeet Singh; ASP Rahul Charak; Superintendent Engineer PWD (Kathua-Samba Circle), Principal GMC Kathua, Executive Engineers of PWD (R&B) Kathua, Basohli, Billawar and Hiranagar, representatives from Degree Colleges, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Police Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other concerned departments. Threadbare discussions were held on identifying vulnerable road stretches, removal of Black Spots, initiating corrective measures and ensuring the implementation of safety protocols at critical locations across the district. The meeting also reviewed the status of road connectivity affected by recent rains, damages to bridges and other related issues impacting traffic flow and commuter safety. Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner underlined the need for coordinated efforts among all stakeholder departments to make roads safer and minimize accidents. He said that the District Administration has formulated a comprehensive plan to strengthen road safety mechanisms, which requires active cooperation from all executing agencies. The DC directed the concerned Executive Engineers of BRO, PWD (R&B) and PMGSY to ensure regular upkeep and maintenance of roads, particularly in accident-prone areas. He also emphasized the importance of public awareness and mass sensitization on traffic rules to prevent mishaps. He also called upon all departments to take immediate steps for decongesting city roads, especially near GMC Kathua and other busy locations to ensure smooth vehicular movement. The Motor Vehicle and Traffic authorities were asked to enforce traffic regulations strictly and take stern action against habitual violators. The Superintendent Engineer PWD directed to identify two critical roads in each division for immediate repair and maintenance works to improve commuter safety. |
