RS PURA, Oct 8: Government Degree College, R.S. Pura and IIC Team organized an expert lecture on the topic "Knowing Medicinal and Toxic Plants" to enhance students' understanding of the dual nature of plant species in terms of their medicinal and toxic properties. The event was held under the able patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour, Principal of the college. The lecture was organized by the Department of Botany as part of its academic enrichment activities. The resource person for the session was Dr. Nirp Kishore Pankaj, Department of Pharmacology, SKUAST-J, who delivered an insightful presentation on the identification, uses, and potential hazards of various medicinal and poisonous plants found in the region. He also emphasized the importance of traditional knowledge in modern medicine and the need for responsible use of plant-based products. In her address, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour appreciated the efforts of the Department of Botany for organizing such a relevant and informative lecture. She encouraged students to develop a scientific outlook while exploring the rich biodiversity around them and to use this knowledge for the welfare of society.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, who actively interacted with the expert and gained valuable insights into the fascinating world of medicinal and toxic flora. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Neeti Chhibber.
