Induction program for five-year integrated UG-PG program in mathematical sciences organized at JU | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 8: The Faculty of Mathematical Science, University of Jammu, organized an Induction Program for the newly admitted students of the Five-Year Integrated UG- PG Program in Mathematical Science today. The program, which marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the first batch of this newly launched interdisciplinary course, was held in the presence of distinguished academicians and university officials. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Prof. Rai congratulated the students for being part of this pioneering initiative under the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences. Prof. Rai complimented the faculty for launching an innovative and forward-looking initiative that truly reflects the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Addressing the newly admitted students, he said that the programme embodies the essence of experiential and problem-solving education, encouraging learners to move beyond rote learning towards knowledge that emerges through practice and observation. Quoting Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Prof. Rai underlined that true education begins when curiosity replaces conditioning and learning extends beyond textbooks. He emphasized that knowledge must translate into meaningful work and innovation, and that students should cultivate a mindset of exploration rather than memorization. Prof. Rai urged the faculty to design an activity-based, dynamic curriculum that adapts with student feedback and remains relevant to evolving challenges. He noted that the programme’s interdisciplinary approach—spanning mathematics, statistics, computer science, and allied areas—will equip students with computational, analytical, and communication skills essential for employability and holistic development. Stressing that education should be an enjoyable pursuit rather than a burden, he encouraged students to discover their passion, develop problem-solving abilities, and engage actively in initiatives that celebrate the region’s cultural diversity. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs highlighted the academic rigor and interdisciplinary approach of the program, emphasizing that the Faculty of Mathematical Science is committed to providing an intellectually stimulating environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. He advised students to focus on building analytical and computational skills that are essential for navigating the complexities of the modern world. |
