Early Times Report RAJOURI, Oct 10: In observance of World Mental Health Day, the Government Post Graduate College, Rajouri, organized an intellectually stimulating and socially significant workshop on "Mental Health: Issues and Concerns." The initiative sought to foster awareness, destigmatize psychological disorders, and encourage open dialogue on emotional well-being among the youth. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Shri Abhishek Sharma (IAS), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, Principal of the College, presided over the proceedings. The event was meticulously coordinated by the Department of Sociology and the National Service Scheme (NSS) under the academic supervision of Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed. In his keynote address, Deputy Commissioner Shri Abhishek Sharma articulated a profound concern over the escalating prevalence of stress, anxiety, and depressive disorders among students and young professionals. He underscored the necessity of nurturing psychological resilience, cultivating emotional intelligence, and dismantling the social stigma surrounding mental health. Through an interactive dialogue with the students, he invoked reflection on issues such as social alienation, digital dependency, and suicidal ideation, urging the youth to act as torchbearers of mental health advocacy and community awareness. Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed, in his scholarly discourse, elucidated the multifaceted dimensions of mental health, encompassing biological, social, and cultural determinants. He highlighted the urgency of early intervention, empathetic communication, and institutional support systems to mitigate psychological distress and promote holistic well-being. The session commenced with a formal welcome address by Prof. Murtaza Ahmed, who emphasized the imperative of integrating mental health literacy within academic and societal frameworks. The event was further graced by the presence of District Information Officer, Mr. Ashiq Rafiq Malik (KAS), distinguished faculty members, and an enthusiastic audience of nearly 300 students, who participated with remarkable attentiveness and engagement. In his presidential address, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza commended the collaborative endeavor of the organizing committees and accentuated the moral and academic responsibility of educational institutions to foster an environment conducive to psychological wellness and empathetic discourse.
