| KVK Reasi organises training programme | | | Early Times Report REASI, Oct 10: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day training programme on "Self Help Groups(SHGs) & Women Empowerment" here at Saldi village in Reasi district of J&K which was actively attended by the number of women members of the area. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J.Dr. Banarsi Lal,Chief Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the significance of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the current scenario of livelihood diversification especially for the marginalized rural women of hilly areas. He guided trainees on regular saving, budgeting, record keeping, regular meetings, regular interloaning, linkage with banks etc. He spoke in detail on the agri-entrepreneurship development at village level by working in groups and discussed on Atama Nirbhar Bharat. He highlighted the importance of homogeneity, fortnight meetings and book keeping for the significant results in SHGs. He spoke in detail on the value addition in fruits, vegetables and spices to enhance the income and employment among the rural women. He alaso guided the participants on packaging, labeling, branding and marketing of processed agro-products. He spoke on commercial organic and natural farming to reduce the cost of cultivation and increase the quality of products. He also guided participants on various incomes generation activities among the rural women and suggested them to stress on the value addition in agriculture for more farm returns. He guided trainees on commercial floriculture, mushroom cultivation, organic vegetables production etc. He also discussed on woman empowerment and said that SHGs can be helpful to empower the rural women. He expressed that SHGs formation has an immense scope in hilly areas and can play a significant role in improving the socio-economic status of rural women.
