Jammu, Oct 13: The Department of Performing Arts, School of Humanities & Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu, organised its first Guest Lecture on the theme “Importance of Theatre in Education” on October 13, 2025 after the launch of MPA programme from this session in Cluster University of Jammu. The event was conducted in two sessions — morning and evening, allowing for deeper engagement and interaction. In the first lecture Sh. Ravi Kemmu talked about the crucial role of theatre and the second lecture was based on Padma Shri, Moti Lal Kemmu’s renowned play Bhand Duhai The event aimed to highlight the crucial role of theatre in contemporary education and its impact on students’ holistic development. The lecture was delivered by Sh. Ravi Kemmu, renowned actor, director and theatre practitioner of the national acclaim, who shared his rich experience and expertise on the practical aspects of acting, direction, and stagecraft, and their relevance in educational frameworks. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. K.S. Chandrasekar, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu. While addressing the students and faculty Dr. K.S. Chandrasekar, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu remarked that “from the vibrant theatre traditions of Duggar land, we will take it to the rich theatrical landscapes of Kerala”. He emphasised the significance of theatre as a powerful medium for cultural exchange and educational enrichment. He also emphasised on the promotion of Dogri theatre and folk theatre of Duggar. He also highlighted the University’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary learning and promoting performing arts as an integral part of holistic education. Dr. Monika Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Cluster University of Jammu, was the guiding light of the event, providing valuable support and direction throughout the event. Sh. Ravi Kemmu, who served as the resource person, highlighted the crucial role of theatre as a pedagogical tool in enhancing creativity, communication, and critical thinking among students. With his vast experience in the practical aspects of acting, direction, and stagecraft, Sh. Kemmu engaged the audience with thought-provoking perspectives on how theatre can be effectively integrated into educational frameworks to foster holistic development. The lecture was attended by Prof. Reena Salaria, Coordinator, Department of Linguistics, Dr. Jeet Singh, Department of English. The lecture drew enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and theatre enthusiasts, and underscored the importance of integrating performing arts into academic curricula to enrich the teaching-learning process. Ravinder Sharma efficiently anchored the proceedings, adding a vibrant touch to the event. The welcome address and vote of thanks were delivered by Dr. Kuldeep Raina, Coordinator, MPA Programme, Department of Performing Arts.The event was successfully coordinated by the Faculty of Performing Arts Dr. Abhishek Bharti, Aparna Kohli and Vishal Pandita.
