Rural women trained in fruit, vegetable value addition | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 13: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) under the dynamic leadership of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor and guidance of Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Research, organized a distribution programme of branded product bottles under the DST-funded project entitled "Documentation, Revival and Upscaling of Indigenous Knowledge Systems for Scientific Development in Pir Panjal and Shivalik Ranges of Jammu and Kashmir." The project, led by Prof. Anil Bhat, Principal Investigator and Associate Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, focuses on empowering rural women through scientific validation, packaging and commercialization of indigenous knowledge related to fruit and vegetable value addition. Under this initiative, rural women were trained to prepare value-added products such as jams, pickles, ketchup and halwa using indigenous knowledge using locally available fruits and vegetables. The trainings significantly enhanced their entrepreneurial skills and contributed to increased household income.
