Step In Right Direction
10/13/2025 10:27:43 PM
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while chairing the 36th meeting of Executive Council of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University directed the varsity administration to engage specialized faculty to offer integrated courses in Hindi, Dogri, French, German.
He emphasized on encouraging students enrolled in foreign languages and technical courses to also pursue Hindi and Dogri languages.
It’s important to learn as many languages as one can. The world has become a global village and one has to be well versed to interact with others. It’s important to learn languages to remain connected with the world.
In today’s global village, language is power. It is a tool for connection, understanding, and opportunity. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s directive to expand linguistic learning at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is a step in the right direction—one that not only prepares students to thrive in a globalized world but also keeps them grounded in their roots. By learning more languages, students learn more about humanity itself—a lesson that remains timeless and universal.
LG Sinha’s direction to SMVDU reflects not only a forward-looking educational vision but also a deep appreciation of language as a bridge between cultures, communities, and nations.
The Lieutenant Governor’s emphasis on encouraging students enrolled in foreign languages and technical courses to also pursue Hindi and Dogri underscores a balanced approach—one that values both global outreach and local identity. In an increasingly interconnected world, multilingualism is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Learning multiple languages enhances communication, empathy, and cultural understanding. It allows individuals to navigate the complexities of the global economy while remaining rooted in their own linguistic and cultural heritage.
The inclusion of Hindi and Dogri alongside global languages like French and German is particularly meaningful. It reflects an effort to strengthen regional languages and promote India’s linguistic richness. Dogri, spoken widely in Jammu, is an essential part of the region’s cultural fabric. Encouraging students to study it ensures that local languages are not overshadowed by the rapid globalization of education. At the same time, proficiency in international languages equips students with tools to engage with the wider world, pursue higher education abroad, and expand career opportunities.
Language learning also plays a transformative role in shaping thought processes and creativity. Each language carries within it a unique worldview—its own idioms, philosophies, and ways of perceiving life. When students learn more than one language, they develop flexibility in thinking and a capacity for cross-cultural understanding. This is particularly relevant for technical and professional education, where global collaboration is often key to success.
